Becca Trent lived her childhood next to a cruel woman—her mom—who lived to torment and neglect her. During her high school years, her mother married; bringing home not only a new husband, but a step sister her same age. The latter took over her Mom’s role—making Becca’s life miserable. Including stealing Ian—Becca’s best friend and boyfriend—Lisa treated her worse than her mother had for the previous fifteen years. A couple of years later, things ended up in tragedy.

Becca buried that part of her life in the deep corners of her psyche, but that only work during the days when the nightmares didn’t come back to haunt her. Her best friend, Dan gives her that family love she always lacked. Everything was close to perfect, until everything and everyone from her past came back. Now, she’s trying to figure out how to survive and keep that bond which seems now to be held together by a thread.

REVIEW

This day we have the review of Where life takes you, NA is one book that envelops you with emotions that we travel by their protagonists, and author develops the subtle yet very firmly .

Gives a synopsis of what you can find, it is light and as it even deeper into the story you realize the depth of emotions that burden our protagonist, Becca .

I liked the story explores the lives of Becca , a girl suffering abuse when she was child from her mother and even as a teenager. Search for overcoming these events is not easy, and if this part of his life trying to affect their present and future.

The situations surrounding it are a way in exploration and readable for the story of Becca , and in which you present different points of his life that deepen and harmoniously weaves the story in a detailed online delicada.y some times in some cases could be as real, but no longer a story, and search for that balance so that the reader enjoys and finds out what happened .

Not only have to Becca , also accompanies Dan , who is important in their present Becca and great support for her in the moments of your life today. It has virtues and defectps , but still is there for her.

I loved the story, this well structured and written, is clear and direct when needed. Its protagonist evolves gradually and based on the depth of their fears and overcoming them.

But he added that history is designed for two books, and is a strong point in its favor. Since the book has an ending in which we might expect un.gran change and evolution in the very important story in the second installment.

Recommended with tea and you favorite place to read. For those seeking an unrealistically deep history and NA

My Stars : 4

Perfectly Broken

by Prescott Lane

Publication date: March 2014
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Synopsis:

PerfectlyBroken

Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken.

She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out

with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans.  But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up.  While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them.

With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own — a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured.  But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.

EXCERPT

Reed woke up in a sweat, breathing heavily, as if from a bad dream.  But it hadn’t been bad at all.  He’d been dancing with Peyton in Audubon Park, feeling her soft skin, tasting her lips, smelling the vanilla.  He cursed the dream was over then looked outside, the moon shining brightly through his bedroom window.  He thought about calling her and reached for his phone.  He saw it was the middle of the night, so any call would have to wait.

Then he decided he wasn’t going to call her at all.  He’d be seeing her tonight at the engagement party -- for the first time in 36 days.  He flipped through the photos of her on his phone, landing on the one he loved the most, her resting her head on his chest, a small smile on her pink lips.  He’d give anything to go back to that moment, to have her in his arms again.  It seemed as if Griffin had held her more than he ever did.  He threw the covers over his head, trying to get back to sleep and desperate to return to his dream.

But thoughts of tonight, thoughts of Peyton, kept him awake.  Over several weeks, he’d tried to let her go but just couldn’t.  Despite all the boxing, all the exercise, trying to bury himself in work, he wasn’t strong enough.  He’d fallen in love – the first time ever – and now couldn’t recover.  She’d been his soft spot, and he’d hit concrete without her, shattering his heart.  He had no idea if she was as tortured, conflicted, unsettled as he was, or whether she’d just moved on without a second thought.  He hoped she felt like he did.  But she sure found a roommate pretty damn quick!  His talk with Quinn helped put some things in perspective, but he still didn’t trust Griffin living in Peyton’s house, just a few doors down from her bedroom.

His mind flashed to the possibility that she was bringing some guy tonight.  Griffin?  And he wasn’t going to ask Bret if he knew whether she was.  That would be pathetic and weak.  He needed to be calm and strong, though not too strong.  He couldn’t just wail on some new guy tonight, not even Griffin -- no matter what he saw, even if her lips, God forbid, touched Griffin’s or some other man’s.

He gripped his pillow tightly then threw the covers off his head, the moonlight hitting him again, shining down an unmistakable truth, one he already knew all too well.  He needed Peyton.  He needed her to love him.

Twelve Steps by Veronica Bartles |Release Day-Book Blitz|

Twelve Steps

by Veronica Bartles

Release Date: 03/25/14

Book Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Andi is tired of being a second-class sibling to perfect sister Laina. There in Laina's shadow, Andi's only noticeable feature is her pretty awesome hair. And even that is eclipsed by Laina's perfect everything else.

When Andi’s crush asks her to fix him up with Laina, Andi decides enough is enough and devises a twelve-step program to wrangle the spotlight away from Laina. After all, great hair must count for something.

Step 1: Admit she’s powerless to change her perfect sister, and accept that her life really, really sucks. OK, maybe that's two steps in one.

Step 4: Make a list of her good qualities besides great hair. There have got to be at least three good qualities, right?

Step 7: Demand attention for more than just her shortcomings, and break out of her shell. Easier said that done, but worth the effort in the long-run.

When a stolen kiss from her crush ends in disaster, Andi finds that her prince isn’t as charming as she'd hoped, and realizes she may need a new program--perhaps with less steps!

As cracks in Laina’s flawless façade begin to show, the sisters work together to find a spotlight big enough for both to shine.

EXCERPT

The scent of buttered popcorn fills the air, and my mouth waters as I step into line with Summer and Emily to buy our tickets for Fiero Furious. I don’t see Jarod or his friends, but the movie starts in ten minutes. They’re probably already inside.

“Hey, Andi. What’s up?” Dave appears in line behind me.

“Are you following me now?” I take a half-step away from him, carefully maneuvering so that Emily stands as a buffer between us.

He laughs and points to the long line forming behind him. “I guess, if getting in line behind you means I’m following you, then I’m guilty as charged. But so are about thirty other people.”

I cross my arms and turn my back on him. “Whatever. I just think it’s awfully coincidental that you happen to show up right after we get in line.”

“You’re right. I planned it. Because it’s completely unbelievable that two random people could both want to go to the movies. On a Friday night. At the only good theater in town.”

“Hey, Dave, what’s up?” Summer asks, giving me her patented, exaggerated eye roll. I can practically hear her thoughts screaming at me. What are you so afraid of? Dave’s harmless. It’s not like he’s going to attack you right here in the middle of the mall. But she wasn’t there when Dave tried to kiss me in the coat closet after recess in fourth grade. She’d be freaked out too if some guy had been flirting with her nonstop since they were nine years old, even though she kept telling him she wasn’t interested.

Dave is totally following me. I’d bet anything that he was listening to our conversation in the cafeteria. I bet he doesn’t even like race car movies, and he’s only here because he wanted a chance to “accidentally” run into me. And if Summer can’t see what a creepy stalker he is, I’ll just have to prove it.

I give Dave a million-megawatt smile. “What movie are you going to see?”

He blushes and points to a little boy who’s probably about four years old hiding behind his leg. “My aunt and uncle are visiting, and I promised my cousin I’d take him to see Ninja Unicorn Strikes Back. He’s a little shy, so my aunt always worries that he isn’t socialized enough. Not sure that hanging out with his old cousin counts, but he’s a cool kid, so it’s all good. What are you here for?”

Very clever. Of course he’d choose a different movie, so he could pretend to be all innocent. And I have to give him bonus points for bringing along a decoy kid. I bend down and wave at the cute, little mini-Dave. “You like ninja unicorns?”

The little boy nods solemnly and releases his death grip on Dave’s pant leg.

I glance at Dave and then smile at the kid. “How long did Dave make you wait around for us to show up before you got into line?” That’s one thing Dave didn’t count on. Kids always tell the truth. He is so busted.

The little boy smiles and pats my cheek. “You have lots and lots of freckles,” he says.

I stand up quickly and cover my face with my hands. Summer and Emily are laughing so hard they’re practically rolling on the floor. “Well, it was nice meeting you,” I say and shuffle forward as the line slowly advances, leaving my friends to fend for themselves.

Dave scoops the demon kid up and closes the gap between us. “We think your freckles are adorable.” He hugs the kid. “Don’t we?”

The little boy nods. “I like freckles.”

About the Author

As the second of eight children and the mother of four, Veronica Bartles is no stranger to the ups and downs of sibling relationships. (She was sandwiched between the gorgeous-and-

insanely-popular older sister and the too-adorable-for-words younger sister.) She uses this insight to write stories about siblings who mostly love each other, even while they’re driving one another crazy.   When she isn’t writing or getting lost in the pages of her newest favorite book, Veronica enjoys knitting fabulous bags and jewelry out of recycled plastic bags and old VHS tapes, sky diving (though she hasn’t actually tried that yet), and inventing the world’s most delectable cookie recipes.  TWELVE STEPS is Veronica Bartles's first novel.

Maybe he isn’t so typical.

The attraction is undeniable. The temptation is irresistible. And soon they’re sharing more than just an address. But with another life lost in a deliberately set blaze, Sara’s trust is faltering. Has she lost her heart to a serial arsonist? He’s already shown her the allure of playing with fire.

EXCERPT

“Sara…” He rubbed his forehead like he was developing a headache. “I don’t want your dad worrying about us.”

“Why would he worry about us?”

“He should be worrying. If he knew the thoughts that have been running through my mind lately, he’d be really worried.” He looked over at me but I couldn’t make out his expression in the darkness. “It’s bad enough trying to sleep at night knowing you’re right down the hall from me. You’re so close, sometimes it’s really hard not to…” He gave his head a shake. “Your father has done way too much for me. I owe him a lot. I really don’t think the ideal way for me to express my appreciation is by seducing his daughter. You get what I’m saying?”

Oh. Oh, wow. So he’d been having the naughty thoughts, too. “Yeah. I get what you’re saying.” Sure, I got it - I just really, really didn’t like it.

“I knew I shouldn’t have kissed you. I think I just made things a hundred times harder.” One hand reached down to adjust his pants. “In more ways than one.”

I tried not to smile, but come on. There’s just something about knowing you have that much of an effect on someone. I couldn’t help teasing him a bit. “Eight or nine times a day, huh?”

“I was kidding. Although I may break a personal record tonight. We’ll see.”

“I don’t know how you expect me to sleep knowing you’re in the next room doing that.”

“Well…you could do it too, you know.” His voice softened to almost a whisper, and he leaned in a little closer to me. “It’s a good way to relieve tension. I think you should try it. Oh, yeah…I like that idea. I like it a lot. You touching yourself while thinking about me…now that is one very sexy image.”

I felt like all the air had just been sucked from my lungs. My fingers couldn’t lie still; they clenched the purple chiffon over my thighs as I pressed them tightly together. I swallowed, not trusting myself to speak.

“What if I told you that you’re who I picture when I’m getting myself off? Would that freak you out?”

Oh, holy fuck… “No.” The word came out sounding unintentionally throaty.

“It doesn’t bother you?”

“No. Should it?”

“I don’t know. I’m glad it doesn’t. I seem to be doing it a lot more since I got a look at you naked in the bathtub.”

I was glad the night prevented him from seeing how flushed I’d become. My left hand reached for the heater to turn it off.

“It did suddenly get hot in here, didn’t it?” He laughed softly.

“Yes. It did.” So hot.

“I think we better call it a night now. Is that okay?”

“If you…uh, mm-hm. Sure.” Great. I’d always wanted to find a guy with principles and look what it got me. A heart arrhythmia and damp panties.

Excerpts from

My Life From Hell

I fired again and again, staying rooted to the spot, and forcing extra power from deep within the earth. I wiggled my bare feet into the dirt, digging my toes in deeper.

At least it didn’t stay dark. Between fireballs, lightning strikes, my shockwaves and Kai’s black light, it was quite the dazzling illumination.

My eyes closed. I didn’t need to see the Photokia and Pyrosim to know where they were. I could sense them, millions and millions, swarming me. More than I could count. More than I could process.

It was a plague of minions. The world was so thick with them that I was amazed there was still room for air. Their fireballs burned my skin and sparked my hair. Their lightning arced through my body.

The air was heat and smoke and burning destruction. Every particle glided over my skin in electric vibrations that shocked the tiny hairs on my arms. Black ash rained down, covering me in a blanket of soot. I took it all in and used it. Turned it around and sent it back with every shockwave I fired.

I felt untouchable. Even with all the hits I was taking, my healing abilities kept up pretty well. I had never been more a goddess, more every-inch powerful, than in this moment. I felt Persephone settle into my skin, connect to me in a way that had never happened before. For

this moment, at least, we were in perfect synch. We were the vanquishers and our enemies would go down tasting our wrath.

Until I heard the laughter.
