Review of Rematch (Vortex #1) by Janine Caldwell

(Vortex #1)

by Janine Caldwell

Release Date: 03/11/12

Summary from Goodreads:

Trent Astor is many things—orphan, runaway, musician. But what’s most extraordinary about Trent is that he’s a time traveler. His supernatural gift sends him on missions to the past to save unsuspecting victims from harm. However, when he fails to save the life of a young girl, his life changes in ways he could never have dreamed. At eleven-years-old, Cassie Moore suffered through a horrific shooting. Tragically scarred from the ordeal, the once promising tennis prodigy was forced to throw away all hope of a future in tennis. Now, as she begins her senior year of high school, the past continues to haunt her. She struggles to find herself, her self-esteem at an all time low. If only she could resolve the past, she might be able to move on with her life. She never imagined that could be possible until she meets the gorgeous new student in her PE class.

Rematch is the first title of three books of the Vortex series, personally, this book caught my eye for something in special: time travel, and the icing on the cake is that there was romance. A sweet romance and time travel that changed everything.

I really liked this first installment, was very easy and entertaining to read, in part different from what I usually read but I kept constant, the characters are well defined and added some ideas I found interesting. as this story begins? Well, first we have to Cassie, our sweet protagonist, friendly, dedicated and charming, but an unfortunate accident changed the course of their destiny and the other hand we have Trent, a handsome boy, orphaned along with her sister Lorelai, musician and in some moments a time traveler.

What happens if you past than you tried to fix meets you in PE class? Well that is what perhaps inevitably and the fate unites Cassie and Trent. the bad, a secret, the boyfriend of Cassie and ah yep, Trent in the past try to help Cassie.

A mixture of romance, time travel, teenage problems and sometimes humor with some uncertainty, you will find in this book is a nice give and take of the main characters very consistent with the story told by both parties: Cassie and Trent. It gives a modern twist and juvenile time makes you want to keep reading.

The love story is not going fast but not slow, flowing according to how the characters have to accommodate a twist of fate that Trent did not expect to happen and what will makes to Cassie waking from a deep sleep since the accident.

Although sometimes felt like something was missing or left over, the story goes in the right direction, the author's way of writing is very good and their descriptions help clearly see the panorama. To be the beginning of a long history with 3 books and I found it interesting that touch that is needed to attract the reader to follow reading. His characters are easy to love, of identifying and have a favorite, mine: Lorelai and Trent, this pair made my day!

If you like what tender with romantic touches, full of adventure and shaking in time, this book is for you.

Tour Review of Five –Out of the Dark- by Holli Anderson

Five –Out of the Dark

(Five #1)

by Holli Anderson

Published by: Curiosity Quills Press
Publication date: August 20th 2013
Genres: Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

FiveCoverFive teenagers who’ve recently discovered they have magical powers and are living in the Seattle underground feel it’s their responsibility to protect unsuspecting humans from otherworldly foes. Things are going well until Johnathan, their unofficial leader and the boy sixteen year old Paige is in love with, is bitten by a changeling – the venomous saliva causing him to metamorphose into a ravening beast with each full moon. Paige vows that, no matter the cost, she will find a way to cure Johnathan of the evil that has embedded itself in his soul.

Johnathan’s monthly transformation and daily personality roller coaster isn’t the only problem they have to deal with. The Five are also gearing up to face their toughest and most dangerous enemy yet—a powerful and ruthless Warlock who will go to any means, including high school, to build his Dark Army.

-I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review. -Let's start with than this book has me divided, on one side I found points that certainly make than the story have potential, has a nice mix of paranormal with a bit of a story out of a comic in some parts. On the other hand, had me a little pensive and somewhat confused.

The story begins with one of the characters: Paige, who discovers that he has unusual powers than ever imagined. She will explore the gift that has hidden from all but his only exception than is his little sidekick, his dog. But not everything can be hidden forever, Paige's parents discover it and decide they have to do something about it because for them is to play with dark arts. It is at this precise moment in which Paige decides to run away and is also the beginning of a avenua and knowledge they never imagined than existed .. She will not be alone, discover that there are more people like her, and form a team: Jonathan, Alec, Seth and Hallie, along with Paige try to fight evil forces that attempt to corrupt mankind.

The other protagonist who you will know is Jonathan, to whom Paige found after running away from home, and who will have a love interest, which will be between the events that will happen in their lives.

All is well, we have a story and the characters, the villain, and a magical atmosphere, teenagers and yarns can lead to many paths of history. This very well focused on what you want to discover and enjoy it, but sometimes felt I was on a roller coaster in some places much excitement and in others waned, making me feel that I was missing something.

Paige is a good character, a good start and a good choice, my favorite was Johnathan of the two, but wanted to explore the world of the five! I hope in the other books out over them also, as it is assumed they are a team. And I would like to see more emotions of each, all have great potential.

Like I said I'm divided on the one hand I feel it has so much potential, so many choices, many ways and could give us many surprises, but on the other hand there are details to take care and would like to keep this record of emotion. Overall, the book is worth reading, something that is fresh and teenagers can enjoy, has an easy writing and characters are easy for you to choose a favorite.

Enjoy it with popcorn and a soda of your choice.

My Stars : 3.7

Little Things Alice, What happened in February?

Holaa (Hi!!!):

What happened in February? Pff ... I think many things. But I will write the most important for not to bore you with my bhla bhla blaa ... ha ha, I hope this month,  you have been very well  and  with much love, iced tea and pizza.

February was filled of colors, hearts on every corner, lots of hugs, sunny days and couples everywhere, also friends enjoying those little magical moments, or families, love and friendship were present. Cats! Yes, this month also cats were recorded in my February list and for good cause, a crazy cat girl? uhm maybe. And the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, came to my country! Well, a mini Cersei Lannister is now somewhere in my room.

Lets start with the February 14, Valentine's Day, a Friday full of hearts? Well in my blog I   had the opportunity to present the second part of Stark Novel, if you not have read it  click HERE! I enjoyed this series of two books, the second I read for review and then did a marathon reading for that week undoubtedly one of the series that is my favorite. Highly recommended for those romantic dates. In life, a lot of red, donuts and games :) but great. Valentine's Day with zombie love of Resident Evil 6, accompanied donut with raspberry jelly and a special awesome!

Cats, cats and more cats!! In my country we have what is called Gato Fest (Cat Fest) is a pre-Cat Day Festival, andIMG_20140216_164601_20140225123827654 yes, it is the celebration of cats, their owners, cat lovers and cats that need more help. Your goal is to sell things for cats, or objects with a particular sign on cats and get  help in kind for kittens from shelters, as well as promoting its adoption.

It was my first year so I take my little donation of  bags of kibble, and I was looking things for my cat, a bed and toys, and for me the official event T-shirt and a small purse. Why is it important to me? It's Personal, well ,my cat is adopted, born in the street, it became an orphan but a week of his birth he came to my house, now is a whole feline believed  and yeah too pampered. Any animal deserves respect, love and a chance of a decent life. If you have events like this in your country,  support him, something small makes a difference. By the way ... my purse became his new pillow for your bed, he was sniffing it, he played with him and took him with his snout, so will I need a new one.

Cat's Day = One of my favorites animals since I can remember, an animal that divides the opinions of both humans since ancient time. The other animal of my choice: birds

The objects and costume Stark family, the Lannister family, the Tyrell familiy, Daenerys Targaryen and your dragon eggs and the coveted Iron Throne, sounds good, not? Game of Thrones The Exhibit came to my country for a short visit of 5 days for the fans could to see the work behind this series. It was a great experience!

The event was free, but made a record to keep track of visits and that could have an enjoyable visit. I congratulate the team and HBO Latino for choosing place very well.

The exhibition, WAO! I was very impressed with the costume details, very well maintained, the dresses were my favorites, along with  rose of the Tyrell family, also with the costume of Tyron and the dresses of Daenerys Targaryen and your dragon eggs.

There was a small space that was interactive multimedia simulation by scaling The Wall, maybe in this part all the floor literally shook me. And what everyone wondered the Iron Throne?

Yep, there it was, beautiful and elegant, well I must say I admire the details, very detailed work is counting than the fact that said his budget was low for the completion of the program. They achieved great expectations.

1392757664887_20140225123958665I got my picture in the Iron throne (this in my Facebook,I hope to download soon) and also a small gift, a mini Cersei Lannister!
In the line to enter was made a little contest with a trivia question and thanks to Ygritte,in a privileged space of my room this Cersei Lannister.

February has not ended, though perhaps forward a bit the Little Things Alice, we still have a few days to enjoy. March is arriving a little crazy or so I think.

And in you think of February?

P.S: I'll upload more photos on Facebook Page of Blog about the events! So like!

Sneak Peeks

The moment is perfect to lean in and kiss her. And I badly want to put my hand on her cheek and bring my lips to hers.
Addison looks at her wrist, my fingers still there. “I should go,” she says shattering my thoughts.
I slide my hand from her wrist, along her palm, lingering on her fingertips with my own. Looking up into her eyes, I ask, Are you sure you want to?”
She meets my eyes. “No.” Her voice whispers the simple word I was hoping she would say. “But they’re expecting me down there.” My stomach aches when she starts to get up. “Thanks for catching me when I fell.” She brushes the sand off her dress and walks through the wheat grass toward the shore.

“You’re a freak like me,” Naya says, no doubt present in her tone.
Shaken by her word choice, but intrigued to know why she’s chosen it, I ask, “Am I? And how do you know that?” I swallow nothing, feeling my throat constrict as I wait for her answer.
With concern on her face, her lips purse, and she shrugs one shoulder. “I just know.” She touches my arm, leans into me and whispers, “As a friend, just be careful. The people here,” she looks to her left and then to her right, “well…they aren’t very nice to our kind."

Ainsley Shay avoids insanity by living mostly in the fiction world. She believes surrounding herself with positive people, and strives for balance in everything. She owns more jeans with rips and holes than without; and has recently found the magic of patches. For her, reading or writing the perfect sentence is better than the smoothest piece of dark chocolate melting in her mouth. She is a deltiologist for pure enjoyment, not for the study of. She longs to move north one day, even though she hates the cold. (Go figure!) So, for now, she continues to live in warm south Florida with her incredible husband, three beautiful daughters, and two lazy cats. (We won’t mention the dog.)

The Author

Tamara Mataya is currently a librarian; she lurked there for so long recommending books to patrons and shushing people, that she suspects they only hired her so it would be less creepy. Now she’s armed with a name tag, and a thin veneer of credibility. She’s also a musician with synaesthesia – which isn't an issue until someone plays a wrong note, which makes her want to squirm inside out. It makes for a good live show.

Review of Unbound by Georgia Bell

(All Good Things #1)

by Georgia Bell

After her father dies, Rachel realizes she is scared and stuck. Scared of heights, of cars, of disasters harming the people she loves. Stuck in a life that is getting smaller by the minute. Stuck with a secret she has kept all her life: Someone has been watching over her since birth. Someone who tends to show up when she needs him the most. Someone she believes is her guardian angel.Eaden is a 1,500-year-old immortal who wants to die. Drained by a life stretched too thin, he has requested his final reward – a mortal sacrifice bred specifically to bring him death. But something went wrong. Rachel’s ability to grant death has mutated in ways that threaten to upset the uneasy alliance between mortals and immortals. And utterly beguiled, Eaden discovers that although Rachel is the key to his death, because of her, he no longer wants to die. And he will do anything to protect her.

Swept into a world of legends, caught between the warring political factions of immortals, and carrying the future of mortal kind in her flesh and bone, Rachel must risk everything to save her world and the man she loves.

I had the opportunity to read this book for an honest review, I must say that at a time of reading, becomes somewhat addictive and many others had many doubts in the beginning and yet I loved it!

Although you start reading the synopsis of this book and see his beautiful cover, you see this cute part of the love story, not the fantasy and supernatural beings, do not worry are present and personally loved it, is a fresh air in this type of genre and different from what we are accustomed.

Ok, stung me curious to read this book, the content is interesting and in some parts with surprising twists and turns than you might want to find a story where mortals and immortals living together and in the midst of this the romance.

At first we met Rachel and part of what happened with his father (he dies), she is afraid of many things, She lives by live, until someone than was hidden in the shadows is presents formally in your life.  Maybe I had my pros and cons with her at first, we had a shock I like you but sometimes I despair. Still I'll be on the lookout for the second installment as it is an important point in history and I think we will get to surprise us of your evolution , since about half of the book begins to become aware of many things.

We also have to Eaden is a 1,500-year-old immortal who wants to die. WHAT? If it is something that surprised me, and I think is a favorable point in the story, I know, we have seen that there are immoral they want to die even when they are just beginning to be it, but never havia deepened and so started a book, suddenly that one of the protagonists would like that, But of course! the  Love saves even an immortal soul to commit sucidio, or perhaps have to change your idea and He wants to risk your life for someone else, in this case Rachel.

The story is very romantic, but has some tints of sadness,  You get to see the love in every page, is the meeting of two people who could be living by live, just because they are alive, mortal and immortal, that when  finally found them formally, find a way to live for. But nothing is easy in this life and will have to face a lot of things if they want that new meaning to life reality.

When it starts to get fancy and other supernatural creatures, including witches, excites me a lot! They are people who never go out of style and always that are present have several floors where you can pull ropes to continue to carry the story, also the world of the immortals, is a very cool change, the way that is leading the author attracts me, because it shows what we know about the supernatural beings but she added things I did not think that could be combined, but yet  she achieved it!

His writing is clear and calm, maybe at some points it lacks a little boost but when they arrive the moments of unexpected twists knows how to defend and highlight them greatly. I want to see the evolution of these characters to towards where here to guide them. And show us worlds coming.

This start is a great window to the author Start with a good road, has enough potential to be a good series, and to talk about for a long time, divide the taste for these stories and others, will be to pendiende his second delivery, and you can be discovering this book with a good evening with your favorite food or your favorite place to read.

My Stars 4

Georgia Bell was raised on a steady diet of science fiction and fantasy, courtesy of her father, a man who loved his family, fishing, scotch, and science (although not necessarily in that order).
